Sarah Walker

Despite being a compulsive academic, Sarah has always chosen to emphasise her creative side in her career. Having studied with David Nettle and Andrew Ball she works regularly as a pianist in the sphere of classical contemporary music, has given premieres of many new British works and has appeared in ensembles such as Collective Title and the Redlands Consort.

Background

Sarah was born in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. After her education at local comprehensive schools, she studied music at Royal Holloway University of London, Reading University and City University, gaining degrees of Bachelor of Music, Master of Music and PhD respectively. Her doctoral thesis was the result of research into English experimental music, an area in which she continues to bbe passionately involved.

Sarah is currently working in a piano and electronic keyboard duo with the composer John White (whose works Goldfish Chatline and Jurassic tea-dance she sight-read on air!) Sarah is also well-known as a broadcaster on radio and television music programmes. She has recently completed two volumes of original music for electronic keyboard students, to be published by Faber Music
